Crop Update March 31st, 2011 We have confirmed with the cooperative for another lot of their prized 21st. Scheduled to arrive in Oakland port in June***** Cafe Moto the Cooperativa "21st De Septiembre" grows in the high mountain Oaxaca region of Mexico. The beans ripen slowly from the cool air and are hand picked by farmers under the direction of Diracsema Jose Jose. Each farmer is skilled and trained to the level and premiums expected. With we specialty clients in mind , careful considerations are taken at each stage of the harvest. Hand picked coffee cherries are pulped on the farm to avoid over fermentation due to the great distances. Once the parchment if stable it's brought to station for cuppping and assesment grading. The final dry milling is done in Etla, Oaxaca at the Unopcafe Plant. The Coffee is directly exported by 21st and came into port on the Freighter "Alexa." Sustainable Harvest is the acting importer and placed the coffee into the organic lot storage at the Annex warehouse Oakland. Once the shipment samples were approved by Cafe Moto, the Lee Jennings Freight Line brought the wrapped pallets of coffee to our roastery here in San Diego, where each bag is given a lot number for traceablity. With Organic and Fair Trade ceritifications at every level, the 21st has no shortage of best practices in place. We like to roast 21st to a full city degree so the clean washed finish and sweet body will remain in the cup. We pulled some single orign shots, SOS, with very nice results.
