Certified Organic
Over the years, the sheer volume and offerings in the organic coffee and tea category have greatly increased. Not so long ago, when looking to buy organic coffees, the quality and supply were often inconsistent and difficult to find. Recently, the overwhelming demand for organic certified coffee, with its associated increased profit for the product and workers, has led to an increase in organic farming. With encouraging profits from organic farming, the qualities of organic coffee have improved.
Most of our coffees come from smaller farms and cooperatives. The expense and usage of herbicides and toxins is economically prohibitive, and by default many of the farms are practicing sustainable and organic farming techniques. However, with non-certified organic coffee it is possible that contamination may occur anywhere from farming stage to reaching your cup. Although this non-organic contamination may not often render the crop unfit, it could alter or modify the internal chemical composition of the crop. Even without a biochemistry degree, we can see the purity message getting tainted.
Cafe Moto has taken the receiving, storing, roasting, recording, coding, handling, packaging actions necessary to comply with the USDA Organic Foods Act. Our coffees are registered as 100% Organic Certified by Quality Assurance International (QAI). We have taken this additional effort to ensure the integrity of the organic product as a whole. These agencies ensure the products are organically grown under a management policy of sustainable agriculture, and the products are handled under goals preserving the integrity created in the organic commodity. With any of our coffees we can provide a complete handling audit trail from the grower to your cup. We think of the certification in the same way Underwriters Laboratories or the National Sanitary Foundation operates in the appliance and food industry.
Today, it is a pleasure to find so many wonderful coffees on the market. After taste and flavor, the sustainable, natural living is an additional perk, well worth the additional pocket change.
